How do you register a company in China?

• Foreign founders set up a foreign-invested limited liability company, the structure long called a WFOE (wholly foreign-owned enterprise). Once registered, the company becomes the employer that applies for your work permit (State Council guide).
• Check the national negative list first. Sectors outside it are open to foreign investors on the same terms as domestic ones. The 2024 edition, in force since November 1, 2024, cut the restrictions to 29 items and removed every restriction on manufacturing (NDRC).
• Local layer: Jiangxi’s online government service hall, jxzwfww.gov.cn, is the provincial portal for business procedures.

What taxes does a startup pay in China in 2026?

• Corporate income tax: 25% standard. Approved high and new technology enterprises (HNTE) pay 15% (Enterprise Income Tax Law, articles 4 and 28).
• Small low-profit enterprises: only 25% of taxable income is taxed, at 20%, an effective 5%, until December 31, 2027. A company qualifies with taxable income up to CNY 3 million, no more than 300 staff and assets up to CNY 50 million (Announcement No. 12 of 2023).
• R&D: an extra 100% deduction on R&D spending since January 1, 2023, and 200% amortization when the spending creates intangible assets (Announcement No. 7 of 2023).
• VAT: the VAT Law in force since January 1, 2026 sets 13%, 9% and 6%. Small-scale taxpayers, with annual sales up to CNY 5 million, use a 3% levy rate (VAT Law), cut to 1%, with no VAT on monthly sales up to CNY 100,000 (Announcement No. 19 of 2023).
• 2027: the 5% corporate rate and the small-scale VAT relief both end on December 31, 2027 unless Beijing extends them, so build both scenarios into your 2028 plan.

Which visa can a foreign founder use to move to Nanchang?

China has no startup or founder visa. The standard path, from the State Council’s guide for business expatriates:

1. Your Chinese company applies for a Notification Letter for Foreigner’s Work Permit.
2. You apply for a Z visa at a Chinese embassy or consulate.
3. After entry, you apply for a residence permit for work within 30 days.

The K visa, in force since October 1, 2025, lets eligible young science and technology professionals apply without an inviting employer and take part in exchanges and “relevant entrepreneurial and business activities” (State Council). Use it to scout. For short trips, eligible travelers can use 240-hour visa-free transit, and citizens of listed countries get visa-free business visits of up to 30 days; neither allows work. Check current lists with the National Immigration Administration.
